Botulinum Toxin Therapy with BOTOX® And Xeomin®

Trinity Dental Loft is proud to offer Botox for esthetics, TMD (TMJ) treatment and migraine treatment!

What is Botox?

Botulinum Toxin, commonly known as Botox, is injected into facial muscles causing temporary relaxation in those muscles so that they are unable to contract. This results in less tension in facial muscles and the minimization or elimination of wrinkles. Botulinum toxin comes in a few brands, the most popular of which is Botox Cosmetic, followed by Dysport and Xeomin.

What is cosmetic Botox?

During cosmetic treatment, Botoxis injected into specific facial muscles to weaken muscle contraction and improve the appearance of wrinkles and lines in that area.  It takes approximately 7-10 days for the drug to take effect and results can last from 3-6 months. BOTOX® injections can be used to address signs of aging such as fine lines and wrinkles on the face includingfrown lines between the eyebrows, horizontal creases in the forehead, crow’s feet around the eyes, and lines at the corners of the mouth.

Baby Botox is also a great option for keeping your skin youthful and smooth before deep wrinkles set in with age. Some people begin to develop crow’s feet, forehead furrows and frown lines in their mid-twenties, but every patient is different. By reducing muscle activity early on, we can prevent deeper wrinkling later in life.

Specifically for the mouth and lower face, Botox can be used to correct a gummy smile, correct an uneven smile, and create a poutier smile (lip flip).  Botox at Trinity Dental Loft yields great results while preserving normal facial expressions for a subtle, natural result.

Can Botox be used to treat TMD/TMJ and Migraines?

Another great use for Botox is in the treatment of TMJ disorder (TMD). In patients suffering from TMD, Botox can help relax tense muscles and alleviate pain. The results will typically last 3-4 months. Studies have shown that the use of Botox significantly decreased pain and jaw muscle tightness in 90% of participants. While Botox does not treat the underlying cause of TMJ disorder, it can greatly relieve some of the symptoms. Botox is recommended as a complementary therapy to other treatment modalities like nightguards and physical therapy.

Botox injections can also be used for the treatment of chronic migraines. To ease migraine symptoms, Botox is injected into the treatment area, typically near the temples. The medication enters the nerve endings in the surrounding muscles and blocks chemicals that signal pain. This therapy works best for people who have headaches at least 15 days out of every month. Botox for migraines works better with every additional treatment and most people report satisfactory results after the second or third session.

What To Expect During and Aftera Botox Treatment Appointment:

At Trinity Dental, we want to ensure that you are comfortable and well-informed throughout your BOTOX or Xeomin injection appointment. Before the procedure, our dentist will meet with you for a consultation to discuss your oral health concerns and aesthetic goals. Our dentist will also review your medical history to ensure safe injections. We recommend avoiding blood thinners at least 1 week before treatment to prevent bruising. Botox should not be done less than 2 weeks before any special events due to the possibility of bruising.

After applying a numbing cream to the injection site, our dentist will carefully inject BOTOX or Xeomin into the muscles of the treatment area. The process usually takes 5-10 minutes; most patients experience minimal discomfort. After treatment, avoid vigorous exercise, avoid facial massages, facials, and other beauty treatments. It takes 3-5 days for treatment effects to begin, and full results may not be seen until 10-14 days post treatment.
